So who knew when a friend asked me to take a few photos for her website it would blossom into this? A website of my own, a blog (!), a "job." Crazy things can happen when asking God to allow your creativity to enliven you and bless others at the same time. It has been a long, drawn-out process that has led to this, my first "official" blog post. For years I've pondered blogging, but truly thought I didn't have anything worthy to say. You need a "hook," or a "theme," or a target audience. I had none of those.
But I do have this camera (that I love), and the desire to seek out the ordinary beautiful around me, capturing it in some sort of inspiring way. I know there are a million other photographers out there, all of whom I am tempted to deem "better" than me. But I am the only one with this set of eyes, given to me by God for a specific purpose. I am determined to use the tools he's given me, and the creative Spirit breathed within, to bring honor and glory to His name. There is a treasure trove of wisdom in Emily Freeman's A Million Little Ways (I consider her my soulmate, btw, even though we've never met), but one of the lines that resonates so deeply with me is, "It's time to live as though we believe we have something to offer."
My friend Michelle is believing this. She is on the verge of launching Transforming Beauty - a movement, a mission, an answer to several seasons of prayer in her abundantly inspired life. In her own words:
"I believe the time has come. God is birthing something new in the hearts of women — where women come together purely and simply in unity for the good of all. This is the true beauty of women and it is a force — a force of love, a force of hope, a force of beauty. I believe God is raising up a tribe of women to journey together through a transformation process — Revelation, Inspiration, Transformation, Revolution. Transforming Beauty exists to help women in this process. All are invited to be Transforming Beauty women."
Michelle is all of these forces in one - of love, hope, and beauty. Her heart for women's ministry is one-of-a-kind and I cannot wait to see what the Spirit unleashes through this new mission of hers. You, if you follow this blog (or transforming beauty.org) will get to witness it as well! I will be trailing her with my trusty camera, trying my best to document the moving forces. Watch out world. She truly has something to offer.
So if "a picture is worth a thousand words," what I have to offer is a tome. My intention is to blog about any shoots I cover. Thus the "Holy Moly" title here. I was blessed to attend two of my godchildren's First Holy Communions in May. SUCH a joy. The anticipation on their faces as they dressed for their big day rivaled any wedding prep. The food, the gifts, the family gathered, and the sacramental ritual of it all is beyond compare. Annie's celebration even ended with a rainbow over the house. Such a gift! The following photos are from both beautiful days.
I love that Sam finally gave me a decent "real" smile, after a day filled with his "gangster" poses. Funny what a suit and bow tie will do for a little dude's swagger. He's a gem.
